Kupang Smelting Hub Overview

Through its subsidiary PT Gulf Mangan Grup, Gulf is constructing the first ferromanganese (FeMn) smelting hub in Timor, Indonesia.

Located adjacent to the largest port in Timor, construction of the facility is underway. Upon completion, at least 8 furnaces will be in operation, targeting the production of premium quality 82%+ manganese alloy resulting from the unique qualities of Indonesian high-grade, low impurity manganese ore.

Processing Overview

Smelting Hub Infrastructure

Power is supplied to the facility by the adjacent state power utility on unit cost basis from power station adjacent to smelter site. Gulf has already signed contracts to facilitate the use of power for the Smelting Hub.

The facility is located approximately 5km from Tenau Port, Timor’s largest port, which has both bulk and container loading facilities for easy access to key Asian markets including Japan, Korea and China.

Gulf is considering the option of building its own shipping berth to further reduce logistics costs.

Kupang Community

Gulf has been recognised for its significant contribution towards developing the local industrial sector in the East Nusa Tenggara province.

In May 2018, Gulf was awarded the Kadin Award by the NTT Chamber of Commerce & Industry.

Gulf is also an active member of the Kupang community, with staff purchasing books for local children so that they could practice speaking English outside of the classroom. At the first lesson there were just 6 children, but the class size has now grown to an average of 15.
